Download Ghost of Old Highways, the Award-Winning Film by Dan Bush and Ben Lovett

While the northern extremity of Gum Spring Road disappeared without much fanfare, the future of another ghost road near Warrenton is the spotlight. The timber-planked Waterloo Bridge along Jeffersonton Road, built during the Rutherford B. Hayes administration, was closed to traffic a few years ago after an inspection revealed severe deterioration of its cast iron supports.

Not too far from the ghost of Oakland Mills Road, the abandoned Sykesville Bypass towers above the South Branch Patapsco River. On the north end of the two-lane bridge, the year 1962 is etched in a concrete wall. The bridge was opened to traffic in October 1963 and remained in service for four decades.

Bodie State Historic Park is a genuine California gold-mining ghost town. Visitors can walk down the deserted streets of a town that once had a population of nearly 10,000 people. The town is named for Waterman S. Body (William Bodey), who had discovered small amounts of gold in hills north of Mono Lake. In 1875, a mine cave-in revealed pay dirt, which led to purchase of the mine by the Standard Company in 1877. People flocked to Bodie and transformed it from a town of a few dozen to a boomtown. Only a small part of the town survives, preserved in a state of "arrested decay." Interiors remain as they were left and stocked with goods. Designated as a National Historic Site and a State Historic Park in 1962, the remains of Bodie are being preserved in a state of "arrested decay". Today this once thriving mining camp is visited by tourists, howling winds and an occasional ghost.

Bodie is a ghost town. Today it looks much the same as it did over 50 years ago when the last residents left. To preserve the ghost town atmosphere, there are no commercial facilities at Bodie, such as food or gasoline. There is a bookstore inside the museum where you may also inquire about daily tours.

The province of Alberta has several ghost towns that have been completely or partially abandoned.[1] Many of Alberta's ghost towns exist as a result of a number of failed coal mining operations in the area during the early 20th century.

The Canadian province of Ontario has an extensive network of Primary (King's), Secondary, and Tertiary Highways, with county-level and city-level roads linking between them. Over the years, however, Ontario has turned back numerous highways to municipal government bodies, renumbered them, or upgraded them to 400-series highways.

MERRITT ISLAND has many ghost towns, including several that disappeared after the U.S. government purchased large acreage for Kennedy Space Center and Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. Here is a map that show some of them.

Although Madrid still likes to consider itself a ghost town, it represents a unique example of resurrection. In the 1920s and 30s, Madrid was as famous for its Christmas lights as for its coal, and airlines used to reroute traffic during the holidays to show passengers the sight.

Back in the late 1800s, Ashcroft, Aspen, and Independence were booming mining town. While Aspen is still thriving today, Ashcroft and Independence are ghost towns. Independence Ghost Town is on Independence Pass, 16 miles east of Aspen on Highway 82.

In the 1870s, the Hayden Survey showed the area would be rich in silver and possibly gold. Independence was a mining town that was very short lived. But in its heyday, Independence had over forty businesses, including blacksmiths, butcher, post office, and of course a general store. Today, you can still walk into the old general store building to learn more about the history of the ghost town and even buy small souvenirs like candy or gold.

Reaching Sego involves first reaching Thompson, which is east of Crescent Junction (The junction to Moab.) Take the Thompson exit (#187) off of I-70. Go north on UT-94 N/Thompson Canyon Rd toward. Stay on this for 4.6 miles. It passes through the town of Thompson, crosses the railroad tracks, then continues into the Book Cliffs. The Sego rock art panel is on the left at about 4.1 miles. Just past the panel, after crossing the wash, take a right. This passes the Sego Cemetery. Stay left at the next junction, reaching the ghost town proper in 5.6 miles.

As you head west out of Tucumcari on old Route 66, the highway parallels the railroad through a combination of cultivated fields and prairies filled with yucca and bunchgrass. Sandstone outcroppings and rock ridges can be glimpsed among the cattle grazing in the pastures. Also along this stretch onwards to Santa Rosa are several old ghost towns on both sides of the highway including Montoya, Newkirk, and Cuervo.

Some 22 miles later you will reach the defunct village of Montoya, straddling both sides of old Highway 66. As you near the ghost town of Montoya you will pass by an old cemetery on the south side of the road.

Continuing along the old road, take caution as it is rough and narrow with many low spots that could quickly fill with water during seasons of rain and snow. Cuervo, another ghost town is just about nine miles ahead.

On the north side of I-40, where old Route 66 runs, there is an old abandoned gas station made from an old railroad car. Also here, is the falling down relic of the once-popular Baptist Church, along with a ghost farm and other abandoned buildings. The old combination post office/grocery store sits at the end of the road.

Soon after, on another bitter night, a loud knock came on Shaun's door. Opening it, he was startled by a ghostly white specter who spoke with the voice of his friend Joe and told Shaun to go to the mine that very night; it told him to dig a certain spot where the green timbers had given away and caused a cave-in. It asked if Skinflint had paid Jennie, and when Shaun said no, the specter wailed, "I'll haunt that mine of his forever."

Thereafter on misty nights, Joe's headless ghost appeared at Maco, a lantern in its hand. Anyone standing at the trestle first saw an indistinct flicker moving up and down, back and forth. Then the beam swiftly moved forward, growing brighter and brighter as it neared the trestle. About fifty feet away it burst into a brilliant, burning radiance. After that, it dimmed, backed away down the track, and disappeared.

Not long ago, but before interstate highways ran around towns and cities, a young man left Greensboro late one night to drive to his old home in Lexington. At that time, just east of Jamestown, the old road dipped through a tunnel under the train tracks. The young man knew the road well, but it was a thick foggy night in early summer and he drove cautiously, especially when he neared the Jamestown underpass. Many wrecks had taken place at that spot. He slowed down on the curve leading to the tunnel and was halfway through it when his eyes almost popped out of his head. Standing on the roadside just beyond the underpass was an indistinct white figure with arm raised in a gesture of distress. The young man quickly slammed on his brakes and came to a stop beside the figure.

There are two ways to update the software on your SkyView system, depending on your existing software version and where you are in the world. Method 1 packages all of the most commonly downloaded files into packages that are available for US and Western Europe systems. Method 2 requires that you download and load multiple files to your SkyView system individually.

The downloads on this page are complete system software upgrades for SkyView. If you are looking for routine monthly airport/aviation/obstacles data, go to the Database Download Page instead.

  • New: Support for Slingshot.Users can now connect to FlyQ and download the following:Plates

  • Airport Diagrams

  • VFR Sectional Charts

  • IFR Low Alt Charts

  • IFR High Alt Charts

Existing charts/plates/etc... can also be updated.

Improved: SkyView now filters "ghosts" traffic targets that appear in immediate proximity to the aircraft to prevent false traffic advisories. These "ghosts" usually represent your own aircraft. They are most likely to occur in areas of marginal RADAR coverage.

New: All terrain databases improved. Not technically dependent on 11.0 (will work on all SkyView systems), but released concurrently. All customers should download updated very low, low and high resolution terrain databases.

Improved: Support for CTR and CTA airspaces which were previously displayed by class., and Display of TIZ and TIA airspaces have been added. These require downloading a New database from either Jeppesen or PocketFMS 2ff7e9595c
